I was feeling a bit inspired whilst posting in my Game Art discord where I wanted to share my advice for creators wanting to try modding video games. I remember relying too heavily on university tutors to simply give me all the answers, this would lead to constant moments where I would sit bewildered at how others were able to understand what I could not. I felt this way when I started my early video game modding attempts too, I didn't know how to place a model in a game. Some documentation existed which I was grateful for, but the gaps had to be plugged somehow and I felt for most people new to this interest, they failed due to no direct or clear pathway. The answer is pretty simple though, Exploration. This is a journey unique to you and only you can go down it, I'm almost certain everyone approaches a task in a slightly different way and the greatest skill you can have as an Artist, as stated beautifully by one of my discord server members;
"The drive and impetus to search for answers and learn new skills on your own is the greatest tool you could ever have."
And having that drive is so important. You have to be serious when it comes to learning or else you won't process at the optimal pace.
